Today, a monumental decision was made in the Western United States. Because of reasons that have not yet been disclosed; thirteen states have decided to withdraw from the Union and create their own “New Nation.” As a leader in the formation of this new nation, your role will be to help create the foundational aspects that are needed for the new country to succeed. Based on information that you have learned in your 8th Grade U. S. History class, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to identify what those foundational aspects are, to justify the decisions being made, to draft the primary documents needed for your new government and to develop a plan of success for your new nation based on the resources that you have available to you. Because of the controversial nature of this decision, it is crucial that you clearly identify the steps necessary for your new nation to grow and succeed.
Each group will need to present the "Foundational Aspects of a New Nation" in the form of a group-based portfolio project. Included in each portfolio will be: A group developed Declaration of Independence from the United States of America.A group developed Constitution for the formation of a government for the New Nation.A group developed Bill of Rights for the citizens of the New Nation.A group developed plan for success including:- A name for the New Nation.
- A map of the New Nation.
- A flag for the New Nation.
- A capitol city for the New Nation, accompanied by a justification for that location.
- A list of key resources available in the Western States.
- Any additional elements that you would like to include, but are not required.
An individual letter from each group member to the President identifying and justifying their reasons for withdrawing from the Union and creating the New Nation. An individual essay from each group member detailing their plan for growing and expanding the New Nation; both inside and outside of the proposed borders. Good luck. Be creative and have fun with your role as "modern day founding father/mother."
